The unit is perfectly machined to accept exact shape Furutech IEC socket and Furutech UK mains sockets and includes recesses typically found only on very expensive mains power distribution units. The recesses ensure that each socket is securely fitted which. Increases performance by minimising vibrations. The unit is fitted with a Furutech FI-06 gold-plated IEC inlet socket and 4 x Furutech FP-1363 gold-plated UK mains sockets and internally star-wired throughout using solid core 6N pure silver (99.9999%) wire with teflon (PTFE) insulation. The chassis has been earthed internally for safety purposes and is fitted with high quality feet featuring rubber grommets to help insulate from vibrations. As a finishing touch, every connection has been treated with Caig ProGold – a high quality contact cleaner that improves conductivity and helps prevent tarnishing. Gold plated connectors were chosen as they produce a richer tone and more musical sound compared to rhodium; furthermore gold connectors compliment the tone of the silver wiring much better than rhodium. It should also be noted that gold is a far superior conductor of electricity than rhodium (twice as good in fact). Indeed the only advantage rhodium has over gold in hi-fi applications is that it is more hard wearing. This mains block is 100%’star wired’ for maximum performance. Most mains blocks have their sockets wired in series in order to save on wire but the downside of this design is poor performance as each socket is affected by the electrical draw from the other sockets. Another method is to wire each socket individually but use different lengths of wire for each socket – ie short lengths of wire for the sockets nearest the IEC inlet and longer lengths of wire for the sockets further from the IEC inlet (again to save on wire) but the downside of this design is that each socket will sound slightly different due to the difference in resistances produced by the different lengths of wire. Star wiring’ is a method where each socket is wired individually using identical lengths of wire. This design uses more wire but ensures that each socket is performing to its utmost and in complete harmony with every other socket. In short it is a no-compromise design. This mains block sounds absolutely phenomenal and is ideally suited for high end systems. I have owned several audiophile mains blocks over the years, including some very expensive and celebrated designs from Nordost, Isotek, Russ Andrews and MCRU – but I can honestly say that this outperforms them all. There are no filters to affect dynamics, no circuit boards or LED lights to pollute the feed and no cost-cutting design compromises of any kind.
